PetStore.Direct Tool Care Do’s & Don’ts Form
Do’s
- Maintain Shear Tension: Keep proper tension on shears to avoid folding or catching. Adjust one click at a time for optimal cutting.
- Clean and Lubricate Shears: Use shear lube a couple of times daily for smooth performance.
- Match Shears to Use: Use convex shears for head/body grooming and bevel shears for feet/lower legs.
- Use Correct Blades with Comb Attachments: Opt for 9, 10, or 15 blades under comb attachments for best results.
- Experiment with Comb Attachments: Test different comb lengths if cutting issues arise, as springs can loosen over time.
- Lubricate Blades Properly: Apply a drop of blade oil on teeth before use and let run for 5 seconds to extend blade life.
- Perform Regular Clipper Maintenance: Grease, clean, and replace blade drives regularly to ensure consistent performance.
- Replace Blade Drives and Hinges: Change blade drives monthly for Andis clippers, especially with high daily usage (8 dogs).
- Troubleshoot Clipper Issues: If blades drag or corn-row, inspect and tighten clipper components or replace the blade drive.
- Clean Combs Safely: Use a tire cleaning brush dipped in water to scrub combs instead of submerging them or using a dishwasher.
Don’ts
- Avoid Incorrect Lubricants: Do not use blade oil or any lubricant other than shear oil on shears.
- Don’t Rely Solely on Comb Attachments: Use different blades for varying lengths instead of overusing combs.
- Never Use Ceramic Blades on Dirty Coats: Ceramic blades should only be used on clean, combed-out coats to avoid damage.
- Don’t Spray Lubricants on Running Clippers: Always remove blades before spraying coolants, disinfectants, or canned air.
- Avoid Improper Blade Attachment: Ensure clippers are running when attaching a new blade to avoid socket damage.
- Do Not Force Blade Latching: Push the latch up on the clipper if a freshly sharpened blade doesn’t latch easily.
- Don’t Clean Blades While on the Clipper: This can cause operational issues and void warranties.
- Avoid Spraying Into Clippers: Never spray coolants or disinfectants directly into the clipper mechanism.
- Don’t Use Clippers on Wet Dogs: This can damage the clippers and compromise grooming quality.
